Meta tag FAQ

What are meta tags and why do they matter for SEO?

Meta tags are HTML snippets that describe your page's content to search engines. The title tag and meta description directly affect your click-through rate in Google search results. Open Graph and Twitter Card tags control how your page looks when shared on social media.

What is the ideal title tag length?

Google displays up to 60 characters (or 580px) of your title tag. Keep titles between 50-60 characters for best results. Put your primary keyword near the beginning.

What is the ideal meta description length?

Google displays up to 155-160 characters of your meta description. Aim for 120-155 characters. Include your target keyword and a clear call-to-action.

What are Open Graph tags?

Open Graph (OG) tags control how your page appears when shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, and other platforms. Key tags include og:title, og:description, og:image, and og:type. Without them, platforms auto-generate previews that are usually less compelling.

Do I need Twitter Card tags if I have Open Graph tags?

Twitter will fall back to OG tags, but adding Twitter Card tags (twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:description) gives you more control. Use 'summary_large_image' for a large preview image or 'summary' for a smaller thumbnail.
